Boards Information
Organizations for Podiatric Board Qualification / Certification
- American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS)
- Board Qualifying Exam (taken during the spring of your PGY-3 year)
- (1) Forefoot (FF) and (2) Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery (RRA)
- The exam is broken up into a FF and RRA exam, each with two parts, (a) Multiple Choice and (b) Computer Based Patient Simulation (CBPS)
- If you decide to sit for everything, this will mean taking 4 exams total in one seating, 2-hours each (8-hour time, total).
- If you do not pass a section, you must re-take that section (only) during the next exam period.
- Upon passing all four, you are now designated to be "Board Qualified/Eligible."
- The exam is broken up into a FF and RRA exam, each with two parts, (a) Multiple Choice and (b) Computer Based Patient Simulation (CBPS)
- (1) Forefoot (FF) and (2) Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery (RRA)

- (1) Sit for the CBPS exam for FF and/or RRA (approximately 12 cases for each section)
- (2) Obtain a case load to present to the board which will be reviewed. (CBPS)
- NOTE - You do not have to do each of the two sections (CBPS and Case Review) in the same calendar year
